A few folks e-mailed me that were having trouble installing the Tascam DR-40 firmware update so I figured the easiest thing to do was put together a how to guide. It also gave me a chance to do a little filming and editing with the Canon 5d mark III, but more on that in another post.

I’ve had the Tascam DR-40 around for awhile now and the lack of independent audio controls for each input channel has kept it from being used on several projects. Although the volume selection with the new firmware is a little bit fiddly to use it does work.  Once you get used to the double press selector setup it’s not so bad. It’s also half the price of a New Zoom H4n making it tempting for people that just need a plain Jane compact field recorder. Used prices on the H4n hang out closer to the and  around $220 Amazon bringing the pricing of the two closer together if you don’t mind buying used equipment.

Full video face off to follow at some point. But right now i’m tied up with the 5d mark III. I’ll keep you posted.
