Here’s a quick test of the USB to 3.5mm adapter cable for the Gopro Hero 3. The waterproof housing for the Hero 3 doesn’t allow access to the usb port so for this video I simply set it on top of my field monitor. The wireless mic is set to the same output level as I use with the 5d mark III. It would be nice if Gopro would add some kind of audio level meters on screen or in the app, as of right now you are basically flying blind.
I’ve done a few other tests and you can download some audio samples of this cable tested with the Rode VideoMic pro here. The USB to 3.5mm adapter cable will set you back about $20, and the case you’ll need for mounting will set you back another $40. Gopro offers up the hero 3 at a reasonable price then hits you hard on the price of accessories, buy a few adapters and cases and you’ll end up doubling the price of a Hero 3.
