Sometimes youtube does some strange things when it encodes video. There is no rhyme or reason to the problem, but every once in awhile a video either takes incredibly long to render to HD or never fully renders at all. The review I posted of the Canon 40mm f2.8 lens a few weeks ago was a victim of this odd problem.

Highlighted in black you can see that the video was uploaded on July 5th. I pulled a screen shot this morning and you can see highlighted in red that after almost a month, youtube still hasn’t generated an actual thumbnail or allowed the video to be viewed in HD.

I’m not 100% sure what causes this, but i’m interested to know if anyone else has run into this problem. A number of you have asked why this video isn’t available in HD and that’s the reason. I’ve uploaded the review to the DSLRFILMNOOB channel in HD for those of you who wanted full 1080p, so if you’re wondering why this video popped up on the new channel, that’s the reason.

It’s a free service so I can’t really complain when something goes wrong, but I wonder if anyone has found a solution besides deleting a video and uploading it again. As far as I know, there isn’t any number you can call for customer support.
