If you need a simple compact microphone, the Rode VideoMIC Pro is at the top of the list. It’s small, light weight, and it offers up to 20db of gain, which makes the output much more friendly to DSLR users then the original Rode VideoMic.

Right now B&H is offering up a free copy of Plural Eyes 3 with any purchase of Rode VideoMIC Pro or Stereo VideoMic pro until the end of the year. If you’re not familiar with plurals eyes, it’s a software program that automatically syncs audio with video clips before you start editing. If you do a lot of dual system sound work Plural Eyes can save a lot of time and it also really speeds up multicam workflows. The software is normally $199, so it’s a pretty good deal when considering the $229 price tag of the VideoMIC Pro.

I’ve been meaning to upgrade my copy of plurals 2, and I was also planning on replacing my old VideoMic with another pro version. I think I’ll have to put my old VideoMic on ebay this week and make the upgrade.
