14Jan NEEWER Dual Channel Wireless Stereo Microphone set
I’ve been seeing these NEEWER Dual Channel wireless stereo mic systems pop up on both Amazon ($195) and ebay ($175). According the the description the unit uses wifi bands to transmit two channels of audio back to a single receiver. Both transmitters come with a lav microphone but also have a built in mic somewhere on the transmitter. Batteries are rechargeable and there doesn’t appear to be a whole lot in the way of controls.
The receiver on the NEEWER Dual Channel wireless stereo mic system comes with a cold shoe mount for DSLR cameras and everything appears to be at least somewhat well thought out for the price. Not sure on the audio quality and if you’re in a heavily populated wifi area you might have some coverage issues, but it could be an option remote locations and less populated areas.
If any of you are brave enough to give the NEEWER Dual Channel wireless stereo mic system a try let me know. I’d be interested to find out how it works out. I’m currently trying to get a review model in for testing, if I do i’ll post some audio results.
UPDATE: While doing some more investigating I came across a slightly more advanced version. $75 more gets you an full screen display and a few more buttons to make adjustments. No idea if it’s worth the extra, but it looks a little more fancy.

I kind of gave up on trying to find a cheap wireless alternative to Sennheiser or Sony. Even new affordable offerings by reputable brands like Shure don’t come even close. On the plus side, I was able to unload all my b-channel stuff for a-channel without taking too much of a hit.

I try to give lower priced brands a chance, but I’ve always had the best luck with either Sennheiser or Sony. A lot of it seems to be mic quality, if these other companies would just focus a little more on a nice lav their wireless units would be a lot better.

I’ve seen these on eBay as well…. I am in the market for a wireless mic, and $300+ is out of my price range atm. Curious on how these would work in a place like CES or SDCC where wifi is hammered!

At big shows I generally stick with UHF stuff, or a wired setup. There are just too many signals floating around.

I am really curious about this because I saw this review of a “similar” AT system a way ago and I thought it sounded great.

Has anyone checked out the Sony ECW-AW3? They’re made by Sony, so I a assuming, that, they can’t be that bad:

The Sony ECW-AW3 units are bluetooth which can be tricky in crowded areas. Also the microphone is built into the base of the unit, so you’ll have a very large clip hanging off of your shirt when using it. Not a horrible idea, but they’d be a bit handier if an external lav mic was included.

That’s just the microphone, not the wireless solution 🙂
I am pretty sure I posted this link before, but somehow it does not appear in the comments. The people here have used it and were not convinced.

Not sure if those are the exact same units, but they could be.

That looks like just the lav, not even sure if that’s the lav included with the wireless kit.

Im almost certain that the cheaper $171.78 ebay one is the EXACT same as the other one you listed for a much higher price.
It has the same model number (KM-2401) and the picture in the ebay listing (http://imgur.com/CiASxwE) is the same picture with the oled screen turned on (http://imgur.com/AmJyFEJ).

Look at the images, cheap without screen, expensive with screen

Seems about right.

Check this out. Sony has a new hybrid wireless system. Retail price isn’t cheaper than the Sennheisers but street price might be.

It also seems to use FM bandwidth. I wonder if that will work better than UHF or VHF.
January 16th, 2014 at 2:25 pm
FM is simply the modulation format (i.e. frequency modulation), the UWP-D11 units are UHF band. They are simply UWP-V1’s with a few improvements and backwards compatibility with the V1 and WL-800 series units.

The “fancier” one with the LCD screen can be got for only US$200 now (and free shipping!):

Makes it very tempting….. but got no idea about the quality.
