Hey Deejay,
Concerning the Samsung NX1, it’s the most technologically advanced APS-C sized sensor on the market today. The 4K image it produces is stunning. True, most 4K is stunning, but the NX1 has the most filmic look of any 4K I’ve seen. True, Samsung has a somewhat limited amount of lenses, but that is growing relatively quick, however, there are a number of adapters to just about put any type lens to the NX1. Yes, you definitely have to transcode the H.265 codec, as I don’t even think the new MacPro would play it in real time. There are a number of transcoders for the H.265 with iffmpeg being the choice for me. The Samsung, you could say, is a camera ahead of it’s time, so-to-speak, as the talk is H.265 is the near future codec with NLE support coming. As of now, there is no support in any NLE. Definitely not the camera for anyone who isn’t willing to go along for the ride on this camera. I for one think Samsung is serious about this market and if this initial entry is any indication, I’m in!

Hi Deejay – The GH4 firmware is important to those of us who use an external recorder such as the Atomos – we can now control recording via the extenral device. You said via the camera, but in actuality, it allows you to control it via the recorder itself. You could always control record from the camera.

Good to know, thanks Dan! You’re absolutely right, if you are using the GH4 with any of Atomos products, it’s a very handy feature.
