18Feb Will an ActionPod support a flash?
A question came in last night asking if the ActionPod would properly support a flash. So before I went to bed I mounted the Canon 580ex II at an angle on the ActionPod using a Frio cold shoe mount. I wanted to see if the ActionPod was ridged enough to hold the flash in place overnight.
This morning the flash is still at the same angle I left it. If you need something like this to quickly place and adjust remote speedlites, the ActionPod seems like a decent solution. Just remember the ActionPod has a 1/4 20 thread for mounting, so you’ll most likely need to pick up a cold shoe adapter.

so, that flash weighs about 2 pounds, right? I wonder if it would support the weight of my 160 led light…
What do you think?

I think the flash weighs about 2 pounds without batteries (I had the batteries installed), so I would guess your 160 led light would be just fine.

Hey Josh – we use our mounts in the field with various gear up to 3lbs with confidence. Obviously the angle makes a difference and we wouldn’t recommend more than 3lbs if the surface you’re attaching to is moving (i.e. car window, boat, saddle of a galloping horse etc) but the ActionPods have held every small LED light we’ve ever used them with… Hope that helps! Could you clamp this on a monopod like the manfrotto 561BHDV and use it to hold a small audio recorder?
