04Mar Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC Lens $868
The Tamron 20-70mm f2.8 is still one of my favorite lenses and right now you can pick up the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC lens in a Canon mount for just $868 with free shipping on ebay. That’s about $300 less the the retail price and a pretty darn good value for a great lens. As with all of these ebay sales, this is a limited time price, so if you want one you might want to move fast.

Just got this lens to replace my Canon 24-105 and love it! Only downside is the focus and zoom rings are reverse of Canon glass, but the pricetag makes up for that

That’s what I love from Tamrom lenses, when using follow focus the movement is more natural. Forward to infinite, backward to close objects

Are they an authorized seller?
Do you still get the Tamron warranty?

Not sure Chad, it’s from Hong Kong so it could be grey market. You’d probably have to enter in a serial number on Tamron’s site to find out.

Wow. The price is right, but I’m really hopeful that Sigma will release their new 24-70mm f2.0 at Photokina this year. If they don’t I guess I’ll bite on the next Tamron sale.

Is the f2.0 really coming? I thought it was just a rumor.

I’ve been looking to replace my Canon 24-70 mki since it’s having some issues. And this is supposed to beat it in IQ. But I keep seeing negative reviews on different boards. Plus, the last couple of Tamron lenses that I’ve owned (17-50) haven’t been that impressive.

I’ve used both and the Tamron, IMHO is the better of the two. The build quality and design of the Tamron is much better than many of their earlier lenses and the Tamron 24-70 has performed well for me. If it were smashed or damaged, i’d buy another one without hesitation.

Would you view this as a good lens for a crop sensor, or is it starting to get too long?

As long as the focal range is what you need, this is a great lens. If it’s the only lens you own, it might not be wide enough on a crop sensor camera to cover all of your needs, but no zoom lens is designed for everything.

I bought this lens to go with my 5Dmk3 and returned it immediately and got a Canon 25-105 f/4.
I’m not saying that the Tamron is a bad lens, but due to the fact that the majority of my stuff is video, the focus breathing on the lens was beyond terrible. It looked like you were zooming in and out while all I was doing was focus pulling.
Even though the Canon has 1 less stop of light, I can live with that. f/2.8 is too shallow a DoF for a lot of video anyway.

I have both lenses. The 24-105 is better if you are trying to zoom in and out while focusing or when using a follow focus. If you just focus and shoot the Tamron 24-70 does a great job.
As for f2.8 being too shallow, I work a gentleman now and again who wants only f8 to f16 on his shoots and another who only wants primes at f1.4 and f1.2 for almost every shot. It kind of depends on your style and what you’re shooting. I tend to shoot wide open on close ups and stop down when shooting establishing shots and mediums.
