08Apr Sony a7s high ISO testing up to 80,000 – I’m in love
I mentioned last night that I was very impressed with the Sony a7s low light performance. But sometimes you really have to see it to believe it. Sony was kind enough to let me hang out at their booth and shoot these high ISO tests. They wouldn’t let me use a memory card in the prototype camera but they did allow me to shoot the display monitor as I shifted through the ISO range.
The Sony a7s blows everything else out of the water. Low light performance on the a7s is simply outstanding. I don’t know when I’d ever need to shoot at ISO 80,000, but the Sony can do it and it does it better than the c100 or 5d mark III by a huge margin.
I’ll keep you posted on my continued fun at NAB.

Hi DeeJay – I have to say that so far, out of all the NAB videos I’ve seen, you have the best sound by far.

I agree, DeeJay’s coverage is way better. I like how he covers other products besides just cameras.
Also, I am wondering if some people who are planning to buy the a7s will forgo the purchase of an external recorder for the Sony and also buy a GH4. a7s can handle the low light stuff, GH4 can handle your 4K and high speed needs, then you may not need an external recorder and you get two cameras as a bonus for just a little more money.

Wow, you werent kidding when you were talking about low light performance. Geez, high iso is not even an issue anymore. I am sure a lot of wedding photographers/videographers would love to buy this!

Wow, they had to have cheated that monitor lol it’s unbelievable. One warning about those smart EF to e-mount adapters though, the AF doesn’t really work, image stabilizing and Iris works but AF is very slow and not always accurate.
I’m used to manual focusing and I believe the A7 and A7s has focus peaking so it shouldn’t be an issue but I’d still recommend native mount lenses for fast aperture telephoto photography.
Also does the A7s have zebras and punch in?

It has zebras and Sony says a 28-135/4 Power Zoom FE-mount lens is in the works (but leaked roadmap looks like it’s 2015)

On the forum a few thousand chlovek would like to see the original files to compare these two fotokamer.Mnogie already wanted to buy GH4 but then appeared A7S Sony and all thinking what to take!

The question here is how does it handle image stabilization?
Also wondering what the autofocus and image stabilization will be like with the metabones adapter.
Even with a standard e-mount lens how does it compare to the 70d dual pixel autofocus?

@ Peter Kent when Sony announced the PL mount F3 they also announced inexpensive PL mount primes and zooms. They made the primes, they were full of CA, so they overhauled them in a MKII version. The zooms and superzooms they promised were never more visible other than a lens on a roadmap. Those roadmaps may help to sell the camera now, but, might not get you where you need to go later. Food for thought.

@Cfreak, thanks good to know but that lens actually has nothing to do with why I want this camera but I understand your point.
@netwerks, I expect image stabilization with the metabones to be just as good as on a Canon body. I could be wrong but I think in Lens Stabilizing all happens in the lens, it just needs power, unlike Auto Focus which needs to know how far to move the optical elements.
The 70D would track subjects way better and lock on a bit quicker, this really isn’t an “AF” kinda camera, Full Frame and Contrast Detect are not a good combination for auto focusing.
btw Metabones claims they’ve tested the Canon 24-105/4 IS and AF “works” (for the smart EF – e mount mkIII at least) and this adapter does work on Full Frame FE mount cameras. That would be my choice lens for the a7S and maybe a 135 prime.
