09Apr First look at the Panasonic GH4k – Hands on
Panasonic was kind enough to let us play around with the Panasonic GH4 and film at their booth. Not a whole lot has changed in terms of shape and design with the GH4. The body feels very similar to the GH3 I was playing around with last week. Up close the screen looked pretty nice and the viewfinder seemed to be improved. Both 1600 ISO and 3200 ISO looked good on screen but, we didn’t get a chance to record any actually footage in camera. If I get a chance i’d like to try that sometime today or tomorrow.
One thing to note is that Panasonic has finally fixed the on screen displays while recording. When I was playing around with the GH3 last week, i found it incredibly annoying that the on screen displays would go blank after about 10 or 20 seconds of shooting. The on screen displays seem to stay on indefinitely. I’ll keep you posted as our NAB adventures continue.

good point about audio jack. I run into this problem on my gh3 all the time. I like to use the neckstrap as a stabilizer but the audio jack gets in the way especially when the lcd is flipped out. I wish audio would be on the other side of the lcd screen…

There was a power zoom mounted on the GH4? Which one? Is the zoom action any good for event work? Thanks for the video, can Ian open up the iris or jack the iso 😉 ?

I want this so bad. I just finished a shoot with a C300 and a BMCC but I love keeping my kit as small and portable as I can. Not that those are particularly large cameras, but this is just a lot of camera in a small body and I love it.

I look forward to hearing/seeing more about this camera. I’d like to see how the dynamic range and low light may have improved.
The headphone and hdmi jack placement isn’t great, but I can work around it with my GH3.

I noticed the Libec LANC/Panasonic 2.5mm focus controller plugged into the GH4’s remote port. Did you get a chance to use it? Did it work for electronic focusing lenses like the 12-35, 35-100 or 42.5?
