12Jan Canon 5d mark III new $2279
Despite what people say, the Canon 5d mark III is still a very good camera for filmmakers and photographers alike. Originally released at a price of $3400, the 5d mark III has bounced up and down in price since it’s release thanks in large part to the Magic lantern hack. Right now it’s as low as I’ve seen it in almost 2 years with a buy it now price $2279 with free shipping on ebay.
I’ve bought a number of cameras from these ebay sales. Most of the time they come from lens/camera kits where the camera and lens are sold separately. You end up with a slightly large kit box and a very good deal on a great camera. Not sure how long this will last, so if you are looking to upgrade, now is probably as good of a time as any.

Now that Canon has bricked the software so you can’t use magic lantern on it, think I will pass.

Are they already shipping all cameras with the new firmware patch? I thought would still be a few months out.

I know what I have read. That the firmware is encrypted and Magic Lantern Hack is not available. I believe that is with the cameras shipping now. With the price drop it may mean that there is a 5dmk4 in the offing but who knows, just guesses on my part. Without Magic Lantern I have no interest in this camera and its competition seems like a better deal to me esp the Sony A7s which is aprox the same price now.

I’ve seen the a7s as low as $1900. The last brand new 5dmkIII I saw in the wild was about 2 weeks ago and it was still running the older firmware (1.2.3). I would guess there are only a few in the wild right now and canon hasn’t released the update on the site yet. I’m guessing if it is on the way, it’ll be a few more months before it hits the stores everywhere and they’ll still have to sell out of back stock.

Lowest price I have seen was from canon.com a non advertised sale for $1700 plus any kind of camera working or not for a 4dmk3 refurb.
