Canon 7d magic lantern (1 of 1)

The second 7d Magic Lantern alpha release is out and it looks like they’ve add a few more items to the menus.

Here’s the list of new features:

  • Advanced Bracketing (HDR)
  • Intervalometer
  • Audio tags
  • Bit Rate manipulation
  • [EXPERIMENTAL] Modify card flush rate for higher bit rates
  • [EXPERIMENTAL] Modify GOP size (down to ALL-I or up to 100 for better (?) details)
  • a lot of minor fixes

The intervolometer is a very handy feature to have in camera. It always seemed odd to me that Canon doesn’t include this with their firmware. Time lapse features are much more useful then an image rating system in my opinion.

The other item of note is the Bit Rate manipulation, which in theory gives you more data to work with in post. This feature has been hit or miss in the past depending on the memory card you use, but if you set it up correctly it can help.

If you want to give it a try you can find the latest ML 7d alpha here. The key word is still alpha so use at your own risk. Also, since this is still Alpha, you’ll have to reload magic lantern each time you turn the camera on.
