At the original price tag of $2099, the
Canon 6d seems overpriced. However, as
I mentioned in my review at $1650 it’s right in the sweet spot, fitting in about halfway between the Canon 7d and 5d mark III. The auto focus system might not be as good as the 5d mark III or 7d but low light performance is as good or maybe even slightly better. Plus you get all of the full frame goodness (well pretty much full frame) for around a $1000 less then the 5d mark III.
If you’re in the market for an upgrade or want to move up to a full frame camera, you can find the Canon 6d for $1650 here with free shipping on ebay. Not sure how long the sale will last, so if you want one I’d pick it up quick before the price jumps back up to $1800.

Not a bad deal, especially when you consider Magic Lantern already “hacked” it so add-ons are well on the way. BTW what do you mean by “well pretty much full frame”?

If you spend a little time shooting with the 6d and the 5d mark III, you’ll start to notice a difference. Even though the 6d is labeled full frame, if you use the same lens at the same point you’ll see a slight crop factor in the 6d image.
It takes a bit of research to figure out what causes this. Basically the 6d’s image sensor is 35.8mm x 23.9mm while the 5dMKIII is 36 mm x 24mm. 36×24 is considered “full frame” 35.8×23.9 is “approximately full frame”. It’s not a huge deal for most people, but if you have a 5dMKIII and 6d and you are trying to shoot product shots with a canon 135mm and you’ve gone through the trouble of measuring everything out, the difference shows up in enlargements and becomes a little annoying. If you do the math (36 divided by 35.8) your crop factor on the 6d works out to about 1.006 so that makes a 135mm f2.0 lens a 135.81 and a 200mm f2.8 201.2mm.
I haven’t seen anything on the 6d release of Magic Lantern, has there been an announcement?

Really, I never knew that, not a big deal but good to know. So you are actually seeing a perceivable difference in depth of field? (in enlargements that is)
Yeah, Magic Lantern successfully hacked the 6D (they got it to run “Hello World”) and are now developing on it but I don’t think they’re released an Alpha build yet. You can see their current progress here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=3904.0

It doesn’t change the DOF, but it does enlarge the image enough to be noticeable. Not many people pay close enough attention the speaks to notice what Canon did there with the “full frame”.
Thanks for the heads up on the 6d, I’ll have to spend some time reading the thread.
