13Feb Fixing the Blink problem on the Lilliput monitor with the 5d 60d and t2i.
So one of the most irritating things about shooting on pretty much any of canon’s camera line (minus the 7d) is that the HDMI port goes from HD to SD when you press the record button. This normally causes most field monitors to blink, but thanks to a little info from dzoemie you don’t have to put up with this blink any longer. If you set your Lilliput monitor to DVI mode the video footage stays in SD output but you get no blink when you press record.
The nice thing is that you can use the hdmi port for video output which frees up the usb port for a usb Follow focus. So if you don’t want to use the RCA output on your camera for monitoring then DVI mode on your Lilliput monitor could be handy.
The Lilliput monitor might be a good affordable choice and if you’re looking for an hdmi field monitor for any of your cameras. It is also nice to know that you can keep this monitor on with out having to deal with the Blink.

Oh wow! I’ve been fighting this for a while now.
So when switched to DVI, is it still displayed in HD?

Sorry no hd, but unless your using the 7d you wont get hd output in record mode anyway.

The DVI thing is a great trick. I’ve got a Canon 60d and I’m wondering what happens to the aspect ratio and size of the image when you hit record. Does the image appear smaller or squished?
Using this monitor with Magic Lantern seems like it could be a great monitoring solution.
Thanks,
Dave

The Image is a little stretched out if you want it to fill the whole monitor. Otherwise you can set the image up to have to black side bars if you want the aspect ratio to be correct and you don’t want your image stretched.

I haven’t owned all of the Lilliput monitors. If it doesn’t have an DVI mode I guess your SOL. I was under the impression that Most of Lilliput’s monitors did have this option.

The trick is to activate dvi mode in software monitor by pushing for 10sec menu, Language screen appears, then push menu to have connection screen, select what you want to activate and that’s it ;o)
